Abstract (English)
The progresses in the deployment and affordability of broadband Internet that took place during the last decade have led to new habits of Web use, especially by younger users. As they enroll in Higher Education courses with artistic and creative objectives, new students often find the Web services implemented by the respective institutions inadequate in meeting their needs and expectations.
The present dissertation describes the context, the design principles and the development of a prototype for Cenário, a Web application aimed at addressing the need of content sharing platforms specifically designed to catalog the creative projects of the new generation of Higher Education students. At first intended for implementation in the specific context of Porto’s academia, Cenário is a relational repository primarily concerned with the presentation of the existing relationships between students, projects and institutions.
The specificity of the design principles of Cenário led to the development, through the use of common Web technologies, of the Mille Plateaux content management system. This study describes its development, highlighting the implementation of its most defining features, including the relation between catalog objects, the REST software architecture, the adoption of the Dublin Core metadata standard, the handling of multimedia artifacts and the Application Programming Interface that provides a number of services to external applications.
As a result of this investigation, a system is presented that is specifically tailored for the implementation of a catalog of the creative endeavors of students in High Education. The ultimate goal of such system is to enable new opportunities for cooperation between creators, disciplines and institutions.
